Saucony Radar LT LTT Sneakers, a Review

I have been buying my daughter's shoes at Stride Rite since her first pair of white leather baby shoes. I've become a big fan of the quality of their products.  We've had many pairs of sneakers from their stores over the past few years. She typically outgrows them before she wears them out. My daughter has wide feet, and I love that their inventory includes a good number of items in a wide width.

My daughter's school dress code requires that she wear navy, black or plain white sneakers on PE days. I normally shop at my local Stride Rite outlet store, but in this case I bought her school sneakers online for convenience.

The Saucony Radar LT LTT is available in solid white or black.  It comes in children's sizes in regular and wide widths.  It has a leather upper and a lace up closure. This model of sneaker does not seems to be available through Stride Rite anymore, however, they are still available through ShoeBuy.com and the similar style with a Velcro closure is still available through Amazon in toddler and children's sizes.

The kids at her school have PE class twice a week, so she has worn these shoes at least 2 weekdays and normally on the weekends since September. I just had her foot measured to make sure, but her foot hasn't grown a measurable amount since the school year started.

How have they held up? Beautifully. Because they are leather, you can simply brush off the dirt and wipe them off every once in a while. While they are no longer "new" white, they are still recognizable as a white sneaker. The sole is still in tack showing normal wear on the bottom. The lining inside the shoe is worn, but not ripped up.

I'm now thinking ahead to summer camp where she is allowed to wear colorful sneakers and I have my eye on a pair in her favorite color. But the practical side of me thinks, Why? These sneakers still fit, they are still in great shape and she's not complaining about them.  We'll see if they make it through the spring and summer too.

thredUP, an online consignment for kids clothing

I was super excited to come across thredUp. It's a US based online consignment store for children's clothing, and it's brilliantly implemented. The online store is bright, simple, and nicely organized.

If you have gently used items that you're  looking to sell,  take a few minutes to watch the video that shows you how the program works. To get started, you create an account online and they send you a big bag with a special envelop and instructions. You launder and inspect your items to ensure that they will meet their quality standards, then pack up a full bag once you've saved up enough items. They handle the postage via UPS or USPS, and email you to confirm when they have received it. When your items sell, you earn a credit for your portion on the sale. You can use the credit to shop or cash out using Pay Pal after 14 days or donate it to a group.

Think you might have some items to sell?  Check out their calculator tool to see what your items might be worth. They also have a feature where you can see what people are earning from the bag they sent in.

As a shopper on the site, they have smartly organized clothing by gender, size and category. They display photographs of the actual items for sale and you can use the zoom feature to browse the quality and details of the item.   The pricing is great. And as a first time shopper, I encountered pop ups that offered me discounts and free shipping. The only criticism I would offer is that I would like to see them add an additional category for school uniform items to make it easier for those of us with kids that wear uniform to filter through the vast inventory.

Next time I am due to clean out my daughter's closet, I will definitely be signing up to get a threadUP bag for us to try out the program. I'll do a follow-up post to let you know how it goes.  If you've tried it out either as a shopper or as a seller, please share a comment below to tell us about your experience with the site.

Payless Shoes for School Uniform

Payless ShoeSourceThe corporate goal at Payless shoe stores is to be the first choice for budget conscious consumers. They were founded in 1956 in Topeka Kansas and were the first to sell shoes in a self serve environment. Their return policy allows you to buy online and make returns to the local store. You can also take advantage of shipping free to a local store. They have a loyalty program called Payless Rewards which sends coupons and offers free shipping on orders over $50.
They offer a decent selection of basic school shoes. Many of them are made from Man Made Materials, of which I have already declared I am not a fan.   However, they do carry a few selections with a genuine leather upper which I'll highlight below.

Spotlight on School Shoes

April is National Foot Care Health Month, as designated by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).  Oops, I just about missed it. So on this last day of April, I 'll take this opportunity to announce that I'll be featuring posts related to shoes and shoe shopping during the month of May. I'll be adding post to the Retail Round Up Series on Payless and Stride Rite.  I also plan to share reviews of some of our favorite school shoes.

"A child's foot grows nearly 1 cm each year, according to Leonard R. Janis, D.P.M. Between birth and 4 years of age, a child's foot doubles in length. By the age of 10, most girls have completed 90 percent of foot growth. A boy completes about 80 percent of his foot growth by the time he is 10 years old. The feet have stopped growing for most girls 14 years of age. Foot growth stops for boys when they reach 16 years of age."

Your Homework Assignment:  In the comments below, please share the name of store or brand that is your 'go-to' for school shoes? Not athletic shoes, think everyday school shoes like mary janes and oxfords.  Is it Stride Rite, Payless, Cherokee, French Toast, Lands End,  LL Bean, etc?  This is your one question survey.  Go!

Children's Place Girls Active Wear - Great for PE Class

As a toddler, my daughter wore quite a few active wear outfits from Children's Place. You know, they are the mix and match sets that are always set out of tables at the entrance of the store. I liked that the fabric has a bit of stretch to it. Especially the leggings because they hugged the shape of her cute little toddler legs, instead of getting baggy at the knee after a bit of playtime.

Now that she is school aged, Children's Place is still my go-to brand for her Phys Ed clothes. My daughter's class has PE twice a week.  They do not change into PE clothes for class, but wear them all day. The school's uniform policy outlines which types of clothing items are acceptable for PE days.

For spring and fall, we also like the Active Skort which is a cotton knit with shorts built in underneath. It is available in a bunch of colors and patterns that seem to change each season. For us, the navy blue works well for the school uniform policy. They are also available in black, white and 3 other bright colors.  This season they also have some in colorful stripes. They are made of 95% cotton/5% spandex jersey with an elastic waist and knit shorts built in underneath.  They come in sizes XS - XL.  The retail for $10.50 and are frequently on sale.

During the winter months, my daughter likes the fold over active pants for PE days.  They are made from 94% cotton and 6% spandex.  They have a fold over waist and are slightly flared at the bottom of the leg, so they are not a true legging style. They are available in classic uniform colors, navy, black and gray.  The retail for $14.50 and are frequently on sale.

We pair these bottoms with the white organic t-shirts from H&M for a comfortable outfit that allows her to move freely and enjoy PE class.

What are your go to items for PE clothes?  Please let me know in the comments below.
